Mr O’Donnell said today he looks forward to another year as PPCA Chairman and working towards increasing the profile of the organisation in the business and artist community.

“The PPCA Board worked together very effectively over the past year and remains committed to increasing its licence revenue and achieving fair returns for its stakeholders, being both record labels and Australian recording artists.  D uring 2006 PPCA will continue to push for the removal of the statutory cap on broadcast licence fees paid by commercial radio which unfairly limits broadcast earnings for both recording artists and record companies. We also aim to increase the profile of PPCA in the business and artist community through new promotional initiatives and partnerships, as we’ve seen with PPCA’s partnership with The Amp 2005,” said Mr O’Donnell.

The PPCA Board is comprised of representatives from the four key record labels in Australia (being Sony BMG Music Entertainment, Warner Music Australia, EMI Music Australia and Universal Music Australia), as well as three directors representing the interests of Australian recording artists who are registered with PPCA under its direct distribution scheme. Two of those directors are appointed to the Board by popular vote of registered recording artists and the third is by invitation following a recommendation by the Music Managers' Forum (on behalf of artist managers).

PPCA has recently agreed to broaden Board representat ion of PPCA licensors by introducing a new Licensor Representative Director position. This move reflects the significant number of copyright owners who have granted licences to PPCA and will allow increased representation for licensors at Board level. Following an election by PPCA licensors earlier this year, Clive Hodson, Head of ABC Music, has been appointed to this position. Clive brings with him over 25 years of experience in the music industry, which includes representing ABC Music as a Board member of the Association of Independent Record Labels (AIR).

“We are all very pleased with the appointment of Clive and welcome his contribution to the organisation. Clive has many years of experience in the music industry which will, no doubt, prove an asset to PPCA. I’d also like to extend my congratulations to Lindy Morrison following her return for a further two year term as an Artist Representative Director to the Board. Lindy will re-join Greg Macainsh and Bill Cullen in representing the interests of artists on the Board,” said Mr O’Donnell.

Stephen Peach , PPCA CEO, said today he looks forward to an eventful 2006, with the organisation continuing to implement strategies to further increase both licence fee revenue and distributions to record labels registered Australian recording artists.

“In the 2005 financial year , PPCA’s distributable surplus increased to over $10 million, representing an impressive 13.5% increase on the previous year. PPCA is now in its sixteenth consecutive year of growth in licence income, licence numbers and distributable surplus, certainly a trend which we are aiming to maintain in 2006,” said Mr Peach.
