FBi on air June 2003
FBi (Free Broadcast incorporated) is about to hit the Sydney airwaves.
"Hundreds of Sydney music lovers have given their time, expertise, energy and cash to build a radio station that reflects the tremendous passion we have for Australian music," said FBi president Cass Wilkinson
Great new Australian music deserves a powerful, clear signal. FBi has been granted the highest powered public access licence in the country. That means great reception right across the city, equal to the commercial stations.
"The cost of running a license this size is substantial," said Cass Wilkinson, "But we're out to prove you can achieve a significant audience share and high quality programming running on Australian talent."
FBi will:
- provide 50% Australian music content, half from Sydney performers and producers, and the rest - the best from around the world;
- promote emerging artists and art forms;
- promote local creativity, including comedy, visual art, drama, literature and film; and
- be accessible to the people of Sydney , providing opportunities for members toget involved in the work and life of the station.
As part of the station's Cash for Content fundraising scheme, FBi has attracted unprecedented financial support from the music and arts community. The station has raised over $400,000 to fund the set-up costs of getting FBi on-air.
"FBi is just what we need in Sydney - a radio station that plays local music that is being performed live in local venues and available in the stores. It's been the missing link in the chain" said Cash for Content supporter, Glenn Wright from Vitamin Records.
FBi will be on air with the final test broadcast starting June 28 - to put the technical set-up through its paces. This is a chance to get a sample of what you can expect to hear on FBi when the station goes to air with the full program schedule and at full power on August 29.
