LABELS/INDIE ARTISTS Licensors We collect licence fees from broadcasters and businesses publicly playing recorded music (CDs, tapes, records) or music videos, and distribute the money to the copyright holders (licensors) and Australian recording artists registered with us. By registering with us as a licensor, you’re able to easily access public performance and broadcast revenue. And the good news is that as we're a non-profit organisation, there are no upfront registration fees to pay --we deduct our administration costs from the licence fees we collect. Can you become a licensor? You’re entitled to register as a licensor if you own a particular sound recording. This means you own the copyright in the recording itself – different from the copyright in the song. You’re also entitled to register as a licensor if you have an exclusive licence agreement for Australia with the owner of a recording. An example of this would be a local record label releasing in Australia a recording owned by an overseas record label. So, rather than every sound recording copyright owner having to grant licences to every business playing their recordings in public, we handle the workload. We currently collect licence fees from around 50,000 venues Australia-wide, including cafes, bars, fitness centres and shopping malls, as well as radio and TV stations. To register as a licensor for the first time, go to New Licensors. If you're an independent artist you may wish to also register with PPCA as an artist. Please see the New Artists section for more information. If you’re currently registered and you need to advise us of any new releases, changes to your details, or changes to the labels you represent, go to Existing Licensors. For more information: |
