Kristy Gostelow welcomed as inaugural PPCA Board Observership Program participant

16 March 2022

Phonographic Performance Company of Australia (PPCA) today announced updates to its Board, including the selection of Kristy Gostelow as inaugural participant of the PPCA Board Observership Program.

In addition to the selection of the Board Observership Program participant, JoAnne Volta has been elected as a member of the PPCA Board to replace Lindy Morrison, who stepped down in 2021 after sitting on the Board for 27 years. Kristy Gostelow is the founder and director of boutique music company, Kadence Group, established in 2015. Her career has spanned artist management, music business mentoring and grant writing services. She currently represents artists and bands including AODHAN, Busby Marou and Tia Gostelow.

Kristy is also managing director of independent music label, Lovely Records, launched in 2017. She received an Australia Day Award for Community Development in 2017 and in 2013 was nominated for Young Business Person of the Year in Queensland’s AIM Awards. On her selection, Kristy said: “I am absolutely delighted to be the very first participant in the PPCA Observership Program in 2022 and have first-hand exposure to the dynamic role of the Board. Being a professional music practitioner is a precarious vocation and I’m looking forward to promoting the value of recorded music and giving back to the industry.”

PPCA Chair, George Ash, added: “I’m very pleased to welcome Kristy as this year’s participant in the PPCA Board Observership Program. Her extensive knowledge of the business involved in record company management and Australian recording artists will bring valuable insight. I am also very glad to welcome JoAnne to the Board and congratulate her on this achievement.”

The PPCA Observership Program has been established in partnership with The Observership Program, which was founded in 2014 to facilitate practical experience and ongoing networking opportunities to create a passionate and motivated community of future leaders. Australian Recording Industry association (ARIA) has had a successful partnership with The Observership Program since 2019.

PPCA’s program builds capability by exposing talented individuals to the decision-making and operations of the PPCA Board and aligns with the Board’s goal to contribute to the growth of the Australian music community.

JoAnne Volta is a songwriter, composer and independent self-managed artist. She has 30 years of experience in the music industry, assisting artists to exercise their rights in the recovery of copyrights and royalties. JoAnne has also prepared submissions to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) and contributed to writing the code of conduct for the International Music Managers forum. JoAnne was also the first self-managed artist elected to the Music Managers Forum Board in Australia.

On her appointment, JoAnne said: “It is wonderful to be appointed as the artist representative on the PPCA Board. I look forward to learning lots from the very talented and experienced Board members while supporting artists during a globally challenging time for music.

“Australian music is among the best in the world and I am proud to be an Australian recording artist, songwriter and performer."
