ARIA and PPCA congratulate newly appointed Minister for the Arts

02 June 2022

ARIA and PPCA congratulate newly appointed Minister for the Arts, Tony Burke, and welcome his commitment to quickly developing a national cultural policy that recognises the true social, cultural and economic value of music – and of creativity at large – to the lives of Australians.

Tony Burke has an obvious passion for local music and understands the opportunities and challenges that the industry faces. For too long our industry has been lobbying for measurable and considered support taking into account the disruption over the last years; we look forward to working with the Minister on a roadmap to real recovery and growth.

ARIA and PPCA also welcome Mark Dreyfus’ appointment as Attorney-General with responsibility for copyright. Copyright is the cornerstone of all creative industries. It is the means by which creative content can be protected and monetised and is fundamental to a vibrant creative economy, creating opportunities for investment and artist development.

As it continues to seek opportunities for Australian music to be heard in all its forms, by all who create it, ARIA also congratulates and looks forward to working with newly appointed Communications Minister, Michelle Rowland, around sustainable ways to feature and promote more local music across our broadcast platforms, particularly on radio.
